Breath En’ Motion

Reconnecting Movement Therapy

The Body Remembers Trauma.

Compounded stress or trauma in the body has a multitude of sources which can encourage, cause, or complicate PTSD, Bi-Polar, mood disorders, dissociative symptoms, learning disabilities, a TBI, addictive behaviors or drug use, chronic pain, chronic fatigue, autoimmune diseases, ADD or ADHD symptoms, and creates difficulties in relationships and functioning.

Trauma is anything that happens to us that overwhelms our current ability to cope.

Breath En’ Motion: Reconnecting Movement Therapy combines one-on-one trauma-informed, breath based, movement, rhythm, meditation, strengthening and relaxation to help people reclaim their right and ability to have embodied awareness, an essential task of wellness and healing.

Helping people feel safe in their skin and skulls while becoming more aware and comfortable with their body, emotions, natural integrity, and breath. Gently peel away layers of tension and constriction, and use breath to anchor and regulate in the present.

Our participants are offered choices and accommodations while incorporating ease into the challenge of working with their trauma responses to help springboard progress with anxiety, depression, and other mental health recovery, or when working with chronic pain.

Neuroscience discovered that acknowledging and befriending sensations produces profound brain changes and turns on our natural healing systems. We help people learn through movement and breath, how to naturally experience feelings, sensations, and emotions without being hijacked by them.

Restore that sense of ease within the effort of living well!

A person combating the effects of traumatic stress may be turned off from the benefits of public movement or yoga classes for a variety of reasons and the lack of trauma training can make facing the triggers feel impossible.

Here is what Bessel van der Kolk, M.D., author of The Body Keeps the Score says about the effects of trauma-informed yoga or movement therapy:

  • Trauma is actually the residue from the past as it settles into the body

  • It’s located inside your own skin

  • When people are traumatized, they become afraid of their physical sensations; their breathing becomes shallow, and they become uptight and frightened about what they are feeling inside.

  • When you slow down your breathing with yoga, you can increase your heart rate variability and that decreases stress.

  • Yoga opens you up to feeling every aspect of your body’s sensations.

  • It’s a gentle, safe way for people to befriend their bodies, where the trauma of the past is stored.
